This was such a good read I loved it. I want to share my experience.
First of all, I am from Galicia, a northern region of Spain and these types of emotionally unavailable men show different traits here.
If a man were that interested in American indie films or alternative music and dressed like a Pinterest board, we would him "un moderno de Madrid". Which basically tranlaste to a modern person from the big city, in a mocking tone. This man speaks English, is absolutely obsessed with showing you how smart he is bc he knows aaaall this stuff about indie music or movies and is most likely upper middle class.
But the thing is, it is all superficial. When you try to engage him in a serious debate about the philosophers he likes and how do their teachings connect with him, he is absolutely lost. Bc he only knows this shit as an aesthetic, as a way to feel superior and intelligent. Just memorizing, no understanding.
My advice? Fuck this men (and not even literally bc so many of them are so selfish in bed) and continue your great life.
Silvia!! I *have* to watch “Un Moderno de Madrid” (And get pissed off) now!! These traits of emotionally unavailable men are not unknown to me, but they make me so angry that i chose not to include them, because the meaning of the piece was to have fun, lol.
