my mom's favorite flower is the orchid, she was gifted one right before i left for college (almost 5 years ago) and she personified it to basically represent me. any time something good happened in my life i would get a text from her saying the orchid was blooming, and if i was beginning to feel sad or weird all of a sudden the orchid would be losing petals. it lived until right after i graduated college and then all of a sudden petals stopped blooming and it wouldn't come back. it always was a running joke between us that she somehow tethered the orchid to me, and recently she bought a new (mini) orchid and has sworn that this one is not a personification of me.
