october is for daily journaling
a writing challenge, my undying love for journaling, and 31 journal prompts for the best month of the year
happy october!! my favorite month of the year is finally here!
october is a time when i feel most inspired, the leaves fall off the trees, it seems like a certain essence just looms in the air, and i see pumpkins and little ghosts and i feel the most excited. i feel excited about writing, i can find inspiration in little places.
i’ve kept a journal on and off since i was very young, it’s gone from a place where i doodled and wrote the names of my crushes and my american girl doll story ideas to a place where i dive into my feelings, and write short stories and poetry. regardless of it’s purpose, journaling has always been a creative release for me.
i’ve been asked about writing advice and how to come up with new ideas, and i’ve seen those questions echoed in notes, in comments, and across forums, and my biggest response will be to write more. find time to practice fiction, non-fiction, and personal essays, and just get those thoughts out of your head and onto the page.
i want to encourage daily writing, create a community of writers who support and empower each other, and want to challenge themselves creatively, so i figured why not make this a monthly challenge? WriteLikeAPeoplesPrincess is for that! i’ll also be participating, sharing how it makes me feel, and happily discussing it with you guys!
i know many of us can find motivation and community by participating in a challenge, so this is me formally inviting you to my writing challenge. for 31 days you dedicate anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to write. it doesn’t have to be anything “deep” or pages full of your biggest secrets, but it’s a chance to decompress, set positive intentions, and practice your writing. i’ve talked about this before, but i find such peace in writing, especially when it’s just for myself, and i want to encourage that among you! if you’ve been waiting to take that leap and start a new journal, or get back to journaling, Write Like a People’s Princess could be for you i’ve written 31 prompts, one for each day of october, so you have a full list of things you can write about or take inspiration from.
here’s how it works:
so right now, this is just for paying subscribers, this is a one-woman show over here, and paid subscriptions allow me to keep creating this kind of content and the long-form essays i’m so passionate about, so your support means the world. if you’re able to become a paid subscriber, please consider it! it gives you perks like the writing challenge, the discord, and an additional weekly post!
paid subscribers will also now have access to a discord channel (linked at the bottom of this post), where i will post the daily writing/journal prompt and we can discuss how the writing experience went. the discord is also a place for community building, there will be space for pop culture and media chats, hot gossip, discussions about writing, and a space for you guys to promote your own work/projects! i’m thinking of it like a giant group chat! you do so much for me, just reading my work and talking to me about it has changed my life in such a profound way, so i want to have this space for you!
i understand that when you’re paying for my content, you’re choosing to believe in me, and i do not take that lightly. i want to provide as much as i can for you all since you are quite literally contributing to my life (my substack money goes towards groceries, if i’m being honest) and this writing challenge is going to be an ongoing, monthly perk, and probably the largest project i’ve taken on so far! i want you to feel involved as well, so if you have questions, topics you want me to add or just general feedback, please reach out to me!
i’m hopeful that these prompts will inspire your writing, even if you choose to use them without participating in the challenge. i aim for them to make you have conversations with yourself, and by the end of the month feel stronger, more confident, and excited about your writing. see you next month!!
