I hated January with a passion, it somehow lasted an age but flew by in a second, and every day felt heavy and dreary. Winter in D.C. is much less charming than the winters I grew up with in NJ—snow on trees and canceled school, landscapes that inspired me— there was beauty in it, rather than the dull monotony of the city. I spent so much of this January inside and writing, everything I published on here was something I was incredibly proud of, and the writing I did outside of it felt special too. To state the obvious, this publication has become such a massive part of my life, something I never expected when I started regularly publishing here. January saw people’s princess hit a mega milestone, 10k subscribers, something I wrote out as my goal for all of 2025. If all of you wanted to hang out, we would need a small arena. Needless to say, I’m immensely grateful for all of you, this platform, and that you’re interested in what I have to say. I’m excited for the future, of where this can go (does anyone know any literary agents, only halfway joking) and I just have so much love in my heart for everything and all of the incredible people this has brought me.

I’m starting a new journal this month, finally putting my old one in the box with the rest, a physical reminder of all of the little moments I’ve lived. The blankness of the pages feels inspiring to me, it’s a fresh start, a new idea. Journaling is such a personal practice, some people use it as a way to make lists or keep track of things and others ruminate on their days. I’ve always just rambled—discussed ideas or thoughts that have percolated in my brain for a bit, analyzed moments that probably meant nothing— but the practice of writing things down has always been second nature to me. The more I write, even if it sometimes amounts to nothingness, the more I feel I’m developing my writing, finding my personal style, and keeping up the practice and routine.
When I started writing and sharing journal prompts I wanted to make them as accessible as possible for whatever style of journaling works for you, you can answer them in bullet points, paragraphs, or pages, and honestly, you can even use them as starting points to building your own ideas. As I mentioned last month, a goal of mine has been integrating themes into the prompts that I share, keeping a central idea for the month in the back of my mind. This month, I wanted to focus my writing around love and appreciation, so I’m bringing that into the journal prompts as well. I know it’s a little cliche to make February all lovey, but Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays AND Paul and I are celebrating our fifth anniversary next weekend so as Rihanna would say, love has been on the brain.
I’m excited about February, mostly for all of the love celebrations, but I’m also going to be celebrating friendship love when Sofia visits me at the end of the month. I’m crossing my fingers about a few jobs I applied for, and desperately hoping for the best. I have a few new books to read as well, my book club will be reading Us Fools by Nora Lange. It’s been on my TBR for a few months and I’m intrigued by the premise. I’m also reading Thirst Trap by Gráinne O'Hare and I’m debating re-reading Beautiful World, Where Are You (in the spirit of love, I guess). Something about February feels happier than January (probably the pink hearts) but I’m looking forward to what this month brings.
Just a reminder that paid subscribers have access to my discord server to discuss our writing (the link is at the bottom of this) and to foster our own little community! They also will receive an additional monthly post(s) of content I’m working on for a potential essay collection, and also just more intimate, diary entry-style posts. I always aim to keep this publication as free as possible, but any monetary support positively impacts my ability to keep investing time into this publication. If paid subscriptions aren’t for you, but you’re still interested in small contributions, I started a Buy Me a Coffee page and linked it below (if you support my writing through it and want access to any paywalled posts, just DM me!)
I’m hopeful that these prompts will inspire your writing, I aim for them to make you have conversations with yourself, and by the end of the month feel stronger, more confident, and excited about your writing. See you next month!!
